Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children is a neurobehavioral and developmental disorder. It is basically characterized by attentional problems and hyperactivity. It is considered as a psychiatric disorder in children and affecting 3% to 5% of children at global level. It is a chronic disease that individual  with ADHD is continuing to have symptoms into adulthood.

Diagnosis of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children

American Academy of Child Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) determine that Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children can be diagnosed as positive, when;

  • The behavior of ADHD children must appear before age 7.
  • These must continue for six months.
  • These symptoms caused a real handicap of the children in at least two: in the classroom, at home, or in social settings.

At the time of diagnosis of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children, one must consider the family background of the child. It is common in children with a family background,  

  • A divorce in the family
  • Aparent’s job loss
  • Undetected seizures
  • A background for child abuse.

  • Thaey are frequently switch from one activity to another
  • Have problem in maintaining concentrate on a task
  • Children with ADHD become bored with a task within a few minutes.
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children can not pay attention on instructions.
  • They may be very impatient
